Between 2013 and 2015, NPC, through its CSR and the NPC Community Trust, made a crucial
intervention at the school, when the matric pass rate was just 30.3%. Today, Phambili boasts
an 84.4% matric pass rate, enviable library and resourced science laboratory. We are proud to
share a timeline of our key activities that contributed to these phenomenal learner outcomes
at the school:
2013
- The Durban Plant CDC and NPC Community Trust adopts the school and a needs analysis is conducted.
- It becomes clear that the renovation of facilities is necessitated to boost teaching and learning.
- NPC Durban Plant hosts its first Day of Doing Good volunteer event at the school.
2014
- NPC’s facilitates a capacity and team-alignment session for the school management and staff as part of the Durban Plant CSR initiative.
- In the same year, the Community Trust works closely with the school to develop a transformation plan. During this time, the matric pass rate increases by 17%.
2015
- The school library and science lab are given a major face lift. A grand ceremony is hosted during the Intercement Shareholders visit to SA and they hand-over a newly renovated library and science lab to a joyous group of pupils, staff, parents and community members.
- In the same period, the matric pass rate jumps by an unprecedented 42% from the previous year
